This is my research into how much effectiveness pumping mind will actually have on skills in Tabula Rasa. This mini-guide will be useful in determining weither you may wish to have a mind-heavy build or not.

By definition, Mind affects only direct damage-dealing skills. Lightning is an example of such a skill. Weapon and armor skills are not included in this evaluation.

Information in this guide may not be 100% accurate. Let me know if there are any discrepancies, since a lot of this is theory, and I am unable to test due to lack of a playable character on PTS.

Soldier:
Shrapnel - AoE Damage - Affected by Mind

Specialist:
Decay - DoT Virulant Damage - Likely Affected by Mind (?)

Commando:
Force Blast - Direct Damage Elemental - Affected by Mind
Rushing Blow - Direct Damage (also moves user) - Affected by Mind
Scourage - Direct AoE Damage - Affected by Mind

Ranger:
Reinforcements - Pet Skill - Not affected by Mind
Polarity Field - Debuff - Not affected by Mind
Carpet Bombing - Damage Dealing? - Unknown (Someone informed me that Carpet Bombing spawns an object that than calls the carpet bombing, so this may have to be tested in order to verify)

Biotechician:
Cure - Healing Skill - Not affected by Mind
Reconstruction - Multiple Skill - Unknown (Direct Damage element of it possibly affected by mind?)
Bio Augmentation - Buff - Not affected by Mind

Sapper:
Shield Extender - Shield AoE skill - Not affected by Mind
Hack - Control Skill - Not affected by Mind
Crab Mines - Pet Skill - Not affected by Mind

Grenadier:
Tectonic Strike - Conical Damage Dealing - Affected by Mind
Sacrifice - Self-Buff - Not affected by Mind
Scatterbombs - AoE Attack - Affected by Mind

Guardian:
Vortex - Crowd Control + Damage - Damage aspect likely affected by Mind
Reflection - Buff - Not affected by Mind

Sniper:

For commandos, rushing blow is affected by mind, while scourge is not (currently on the PTS).  I had to triple test it to be sure but my Thrax guy with 59 mind does as much damage with it as my Forean with 304 mind.  Kinda threw me through a loop since it's a damage ability, but I guess it's considered indirect since it actually puts a buff on you which, in turn, radiates damage... bleh.

Still confused why so many skills are unaffected damage wise by mind...

in the first release of info it was stated that the 3 attribs would allow people to spec more differently...

Seems to me that this strange rulling that mind only affects a few things means hardly any change in the way most people spec thier atrribs..

certainly myself I will probably be speccing mostly body or an even spread as i have now.. ( engineer)   seems pointless wasting all the time to change the system really..

I dont really know either, my closest guess is that they CBA to program Mind to affect all the 'X' skills.

Problem is, most of the skills in the game can be classified as 'X' skills.

X = All skills in the categories of either pets, buffs, debuffs, or healing

I wouldnt be too concerned by it. Eventually people will bitch enough about the uselessness of Mind and everyone speccing either Body, Spirit, or a combination of the two and the devs will relent and buff Mind. As it is, unless your a class where most of the abilities you use are actually affected by Mind, unless you REALLY need more power, you will receive more of a direct benefit going either Body, Spirit, or a combination of the two.

I actually found on test that my rushing blow at pump 4 did 1400-1500 damage no matter how much I pumped mind, so this may need more testing before it can be confirmed that Rushing blow is affected by mind.

I was under the understanding that scourge is unaffected by mind, but I haven't had a chance to test it fully to confirm anything, so you could be right. I thought it was technically a "self-buff" and as such isn't affected by the mind attribute.

I also have a friend that was doing testing on a Demolitionist, and it didn't look like self-destruct got a damage bonus from mind. He pumped fully into mind and was not dealing any more damage that we could see. It makes a twisted sort of sense, since self-destruct is technically a "buff" to the user.

Controlled Fission you have listed as unknown, it is not affected by mind. I believe it's because technically it is a debuff to the enemy, allowing them to take more damage from any source.

Nanites are also unaffected by the mind attribute. Again, they are technically a debuff. Everything the Demo has is technically a buff or debuff, poor Demo's. :-/

We didn't notice a damage bonus to the Demo's explosive wave either, even after pumping over 50 points into mind. But it is direct damage, so theoretically it should be receiving a buff.

This is a useful post, particularly as a newcomer to the game - it clears up a lot of the 'supposed' concepts that I have regarding what exactly the attribute Mind is for. I will definitly have a rethink about my attributes a lot more now even at an earlier stage in the game. The problem I find is that the hover over information is a little ambigious and could be open to loose interpretation :D

ok, this post has made me definately to respec my toon of all mind ;) I have slightly higher body from spirit, and lower mind, but it seems mind is useless to me, so Ill buff everything to body and respec if needed...

don't take that post above as "actual", there had been A LOT of changes since february ...

best advice: respec and test !


if you survive pretty well with full body -> go full spirit ... if you're still having no problems but using a lot of logos-skills -> go full mind, if you die with full mind -> go back to spirit and try tweaking around a mix of mind/spirit or mind/body ... however ... full body = best choice for now =)

looks like I have to farm another 600 prestige, just in case :) Going full body though, as I do a lot of CP, and launcher/grenade aggro is huge.

If you have access to PTS (you should if you have enough harddrive space) you can now easily test builds with the help of PTS level command mission giver and PTS gear and token seller (these guys are found in Alia Das or wargame lobby).

respect skill or attribute tokens cost 1credit only.

Should spare you some prestige and allow easy build test. But remember that it is PTS so results might be a bit different than live, read the patch notes for differences.

Nice try but, the thread as a whole is rather outdated, just look at the engy and exo sections saying pets aren't affected by mind, while a high mind can effectively triple their damage(and you need to if you want to get good millage out of the pet).

Try and help keeping the descrips here(on tarapedia) up to date.
