Crater Lake in Wilderness
« on: May 13, 2008, 05:49:02 PM »
Havent found any threads mentioning this instance, but Im having very hard time there anyway... Simply put, I die very fast there, my toon is a (now) level 11 Soldier, and the instance is marked as level 7-10... I get  usually as far as the first terminal there, but usually die a lot earlier... I know the solution will be an easy one, but cant really figure it out ;)

the secret besides bringin friends is:
get the highest quality and level of Armorand weapons you can afford from MS.

EMP bombs and EMP chaingun for the mortors, Phsyical CG for the AOE on bosses.
do a lot of hit and run .( pick a couple off then run until they stop chasing you)

the big secret is: GO SLOW ! and pull mobs from FAR away ... to shred them to pieces as soon as they're close ...

Ok, just thought there would be an "easy" way... saw a level 5 and 7 toon come from the lower area, and thought they would have done it duo... Wondered why cant I do that with a higher toon :)

And for the chaingun, I dont think Im rich enough for using one... Only have 57k at 12, so I would imagine the money will be gone very fast with a CG...

if you use CG all the time at lower levels  you will be broke. Until you get to level 20 and money comes in faster you save the CG for the bosses.

you don't get broke with machineguns only ... that's what i started with on pegasus ... 1000 bullets and a chaingun ... never ran out of money ...

A little update on the Crater Lake issue... Now that I finished the wilderness ToO mission, I have some observations on the wilderness statics.

Crater lake was by FAR the hardest one to do, although its level range suggests it to be the easiest!

I was a level 16 Commando while doing this, armed with rocket launcher, grenade gun, shotgun and a chaingun (chaingun was essential for taking out the predators).

As Teskon stated: GO SLOW! I really learned that, as this was the only static I died in...

The Machina are annoying, as they bug... They look like theyre dead, but you get damage out of nowhere... If you see a body following you, shoot it with a shotgun! Better yet, pull the body (bodies!) somewhere you wont go again, and shoot it there. That last sentence sounds like its from a mafia movie, but sadly isnt... ;)

Edit: As an afterthought, the statics are really not in line with the difficulty level of the rest of the zone... While everything else is easyish at 10, the statics are NOT. Second thing is, the mobs in statics dont respawn, save for the machina's, atleast in wilderness statics. (cant understand why I had to kill the same mobs over and over again on the first time I tried Crater Lake... Maybe I popped outside after deaths...)

you can do donn with lvl 10, the others with 12/13 ... (new shotty, new mg with 13, new ma armor with 13)

predator = run below and shoot from behind, mostly 1hits ...

Well, if you don't loot the machinas (aka taking their control chip), they resurect themself.

That must be a bug then, as I loot everything... And the Machinas and hominidis just keep coming, atleast in the statics.

If they are upright, then you might have to check your loot settings, although i thought that they shifted the machinae chips so that they were looted automatically.

If they are laying down then they are bugged mobs, and AoE attack will kill them (ie shotguns, shrapnel ability, rocket launchers and also grenades)

ok, that clarified it. The ones that respawn ARE lying down, and can be killed with an AOE attack... They just dont stay dead. My loot settings are on collecting everything, as this is my first toon, and I dont wanna throw away anything worth even 1 cred... ;) The cheap stuff is sold easily anyway when I get to a shop.

You have to go slow I found. The problem is the first boss as you make your way up the incline (I forget his name). He is by far the hardest. After that, lure them out of their bases and kill.
However, I completed all my Wilderness ToO and Instances. But on Crater Lake I did not complete the final escort properly and I cannot run the mission again? Did I interpret this accurately? And now I can't be Wilderness Master?  :(

Are you sure you didn't complete the escort quest properlly? As there are two quests for the final escort NPC. If you take him to the AFS woman in the cave near the entrance, you'll fail one of the quests, and likewise if you take him to the instance entrance, you'll fail the other escort quest. Are you sure it's not that, that happened? As the first time I did Crater lake and I saw the "mission failed" message and wondered how I'd failed it.
