Heavy Tech in AFS forces
« on: August 11, 2008, 11:37:22 PM »
I mentioned, that Bane have overwhelming number of heavythech (Striders, Stalkers, Juggernauts), but AFS has only Mech. What about injecting some more armored units for AFS?

We discussed that reason online at EU server, and came to conclusion, that if AFS was able to build Mech, it is able to construct something more worthy, because Mechs are compatible only to Kaels. Penumbras Black-ops uses. by the way, Thraxis machina - why not inject these units to open battlefield?

Thanks,Loke Stormhill

I seem to remember an AFS tank appearing during the beta at one point...

Pitiful, but players can't see 'em on the battlefield)

I thought keals where immune to the damage types mechs can use...

Also AFS turrets aren't nearly as hard to destroy as Bane turrets, they have half the armor and don't get the advantage of bleeding(for a reason I know, they are lazer to keep keals in check)
I know if they made units that were really on par with the bane, the players would be competing with those those for kills, but it would still be nice to see the cavalry riding in...

Something tough that deals emp damage, but moves slower than the infantry would be balanceable IM(I)O... an UAV carrierer perhaps:-/

Mb developers should discuss that point, um?

when they upgraded the current mechs to do the rocket attack and "death from above", it did actually take a bit of tweaking to make sure that they DIDNT steamroller the opponents...

And that is where part of the problem kicks in as well... as System_Crush has pointed out.

Now i am not against the idea about different mobs coming in, its just the balancing act that comes in with it (trust me, the AFS now are a LOT more useful than they used to be... and they died by the score)

The Penumbra lot are a shady bunch (if you read the missions text et al, the Thrax Machinae DONT exist officially... then again neither do some other parts of the AFS).. so releaseing them into the open would also reveal the existance of Penumbra to the standard troops (something that Penumbra DONT want to do)

Of course, that is something else to think about on the player side.

Dropship strafing runs, well it would be cool  ;D
Except they don't have guns but other than that  ;)

They occasionally drop mechs, they should put in a mechanic where they can do a fly by and drop the mech so it skips along the ground, flattening bane as it bounces and the mech unfolds where it stops bouncing.

Not as much as a RO(t)FL atleast, as that one involves actually getting your ass off the chair. Although I'm fairly certain most people just say it without actually doing it. Damn hacks...

Actually if they just limit it to 3 skips making it a pre-designed animation it takes no more physics than a keal jump.
I never said it would have to be gravitationally correct, I doubt something heavy enough to preform a death from above attack would be able to bounce at all.
The mech would pretty much do a triple keal jump, from the place where it would normally start to where the toughest foe is.

The biggest problem would be the dynamic dropship animation, as it has to swoop in and pull up, instead of the near vertical landing they have now, as the direction isn't set I think dropships would always be passing through CP towers, rock walls and other geometry if someone of my limited skill progged it.

Maybe they could just go back to the pre beta method of dropship troop delivery and splat the bane with a drop a troop container. :P

i kind of like the way it is now.

with the rate and ammount of bane we are slaughtering it makes me wonder how they ever got to take over earth, the only conclusion is superior technology. Striders, Stalkers and Juggernaughts are perfect for this giving them the "egde" on the war, and us with our wormholes gives us our "egde".

Gangrel, i agreed about thraxis machina, i know about Penumbra's secrecy etc.

But tanks, or smth like that, is necessary, i guess. What about mech jump - why not? But even if developers will get this idea, in-game injections won't be sonn)
