I have posted this elsewhere in the Tech forum, but thought it might be helpful in here too.

ATI/AMD released a hotfix for a problem with some ATI cards stuttering in some 3D applications a week or so ago (late March 08).
They seem to have done it rather quietly & I have only found it by accident today.
It hasn't solved the problem for me (slow down/freezing every 10-15 paces), but there appears to be a few variations on the theme of stuttering graphics, so it may well sort things out for you?

If you want to give it a try, head to http://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894

I believe that this will be implemented in the 8.4 drivers, whenever they are due to be released, so if you are not comfortable with using the hotfix for whatever reason, you can always wait for the next drivers to be released.

Additional news for single core machines. There is an improvement in the background thread that causing most of the stuttering when moving in the game on single core machines. The fix may be in D10 but will definately in D11.

Cheers Pegasus, good to know DG solved this about 1 year after launch.

errr, only one year after launch of beta (14 months actually) so not all that bad...

BUt optimisiation between single and dual core Processors though is harder than you think anyway
1) I reject your reality.... and substitute my own
2) Not to be used when upset... will void warranty
3) Stoke me a clipper i will be back for dinner
4) Never tell Gangrel to do anything... he will probably get it wrong
5) I have seen more intelligence from an NPC AI in TR beta, than from most MMO players.
6) BLOG ME!
